This afternoon I went to Boekelo. A memorial was unveiled to commemorate the crew of Halifax DK259, which crashed here on September 29, 1943. It was very impressive and moving. Representatives from four countries were present, Canada, United Kingdom, United States and The Netherlands, of course.
There were speeches, the laying of wreaths and music. There was a fly-over. I always get very moved at such moments, and when the national anthems were played, the tears ran down my cheeks.
I am very glad that there are still people who, like me, find it very important that the people who have fought for our freedom are not forgotten!
